Abstract

Crime prevention remains a top priority to ensure public security and safety among its residents. This study deals with the “Community-Based Crime Prevention Program: A Partnership Approach at the Local Level”. It uses a qualitative-phenomenological design with the use of thematic analysis to explore the participants’ experience and observation on the implementation of crime prevention. It employed a convenient sampling technique with the use of the interview guide in a semi-structured way to extract the necessary data from the participants. There were six (6) generated codes based on the data collected and analyzed; active reporting of traffic incidents, delayed reporting of violent crimes, fear of involvement, witness trauma/shock, minor delinquencies, parental authority and accountability, and PNP delayed response due to late reporting. With these, three (3) central theme were identified based on the generated code: the community’s active involvement in some incidents, the lack of parental control and the normalization of deviant behavior among youth, and delayed and selective reporting weakening crime response. The findings concluded that there are interlinked factors to achieve the goals of preventing crime, like crime reporting, family discipline, and the efficiency of law enforcement response to incidents.
