Abstract

This paper discusses how the smoke detector was integrated with the Blynk platform. The purpose of this capstone project was to enhance indoor safety by detecting and monitoring smoke with the concept of IoT using ESP8266 and MQ2 integrated with Blynk App. Through this integration, users may remotely monitor and manage the system, guaranteeing that accurate and timely data is sent to Blynk cloud. The method used in this study was to build a prototype consisting of a sensor, actuators (LED and Buzzer), ESP8266 and Smartphones/Laptop. Sensors were used in detecting smoke, actuators were used to alert and notify users and ESP8266 was used to provide Wi-Fi connectivity. ESP8266 was also used as a link between actuators and sensors. It reads sensor data and sends it to the Blynk server. This project focuses on detecting and monitoring smoke but without identifying the type of smoke it detected. The emphasis was on real-time monitoring and simple data storage. To evaluate and test the system’s usability and other factors that impact its performance, dependability, maintainability, and other critical characteristics, 15 participants were chosen to test using the SUS standardized questionnaire and 7 technical experts with expertise in sensor technology, microcontroller programming, IoT integration and fire safety systems were purposely chosen. The testing and evaluation were done using modified McCall’s Software Quality Model on a controlled setting while SUS was done on different locations in accordance with the testers.
