Abstract

Competence and engagement are vital for an organization’s performance. This study was conducted to determine the level of competence in research, engagement in research, and job performance of teachers in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Panay Island for the School Year 2023-2024. Likewise, it ascertained significant differences in job performance among the participants in terms of their level of competence in research and engagement in research. Ultimately, it identified substantial relationships among research competence, research engagement, and job performance. This was conducted from August to November 2023 and utilized stratified random sampling. Of the 3,442 teachers, 358 were considered participants. Questionnaires were used to elicit the needed data: Competence in Research Questionnaire, Engagement in Research Questionnaire, and Job Performance Questionnaire. These had passed the Cronbach’s alpha test of reliability. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent samples, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson r were the statistical tests used. The alpha level was set at .05. Results show that participants had “very high” competence in research, “low” engagement in research, and “very satisfactory” job performance. Significant variations occurred in the job performance of participants among the levels of competence in research, but not in engagement in research. Finally, significant relationships were observed among participants’ competence in research, engagement in research, and job performance.
